Nigerian Actress Condemned To Death Recaptured After Six Years

A Nigerian actress identified as Rabi Ismail has been recaptured by men of the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service with the support of men of the State Security Service, SSS, six years after she escaped from Hadejia Prison, Jigawa State, on December 16, 2011.

The Hausa actress was said to be a prisoner who was before her escape sentenced to death by haning for culpable homicide by a High Court in Kano on the 5th of January, 2005.

Speaking on the recapture of the actress after six years, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Francis Enobore disclosed that the court had found the actress guilty of drugging, drowning and killing a male friend, Mr Auwalu Ibrahim, in 2002 to acquire his property in Kano.

The actress was however sentenced to death by hanging in July 2011 by the Supreme Court which upheld the sentence pronounced by the lower courts leading to her incarceration in the Kaduna Central prison from where she was transferred to Hadejia prison in Jigawa State where she escaped from about six years ago.

Enobore while disclosing the arrest further expressed the appreciation of the Controller-General of Prisons, Jaa’faru Ahmed to the DSS and the police for their assistance in recapturing the fugitive.

He further vowed that all escaped prisoners will be recaptured and brought to justice adding that “other escapees still at large will be fished out no matter how long it takes.”

Man Dies Minutes Later After Drinking 3 Litres Of Vodka

A man met his end after taking part in a vodka drinking competition organized by a local supermarket called Saveliy in Russia.

The competition took place in Volgodonsk in south-western Russia’s Rostov Oblast region.

The contest which was titled ‘Who Can Drink More Vodka’ had five participants rushed to medical centre, and one dying from consuming too much alcohol.

However, the Police have started a criminal case against the supermarket for causing death by negligence as well as violating an advertising law which prohibits any action that stimulates the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

40 men took part in the vodka drinking competition which saw them drink vodka put in buckets.

Salami and bread were offered by the shop to line the stomachs of the men, with the winner promised 10 bottles of vodka as a prize.

Just minute after the competition, Doctors arrived and diagnosed six participants with severe intoxication after they started feeling unwell. But a man died later.

“He managed to drink about three litres of vodka, which most likely wouldn’t have ended in death if it was a normal person.” Doctor Mikhail Kravchenko said.

There are rumours that the organisers of the event will escape punishment because participants joined in on a voluntary basis.

5 Sars Officers Beat Man To Pulp And Collected N200k For Bail

CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

Five operatives of State Anti–Robbery Squad, SARS have landed in trouble after they allegedly attacked and brutalized a business man and obtained N200,000 as bail with the force of arms in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that this followed a petition written by the victim, Alhaji Fasasi Kasali Ojo to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, zone 2 who has ordered investigation over the allegations.

The business man, Alhaji Fasasi Kasali Ojo who is the Managing Director/CEO of Asaka Auto Investment Nigeria Ltd alleged that the operatives invaded his office at Ijegun road in Ikotun area, attacked and put him inside their car booth and drove away and later detained him at the SARS office where they obtained the money from his relations before they freed him.

Ojo is presently battling with excruciating pains, physically and emotionally over the battering, dehumanization and disgrace meted to him.

An embattled Ojo narrated that the officers led by one Alhaji Alliu and Alfa invaded his business premises in a commando style on the 15th of May, 2017, at about 11: 30am, parked their car in front of his office, brandishing firearms, shooting sporadically.

An embittered Ojo said the men came into his office and began to hit him with countless slaps, such that had caused difficulty in hearing and seeing and bundled him into the booth of their Salon Car, having tightly handcuffed him and drove off.

“They handcuffed me and threw me into the booth and drove off. An old man who came to know why I was being ruffled and manhandled as they were throwing me in the booth was chased with an AK47 by one of them”, he noted.

Alhaji Ojo said he was kept in their car booth for over 6 hours long, as they drove all the way through Badagry and back to SARS Ikeja where they eventually released him after bargaining from N1m and eventually arrived at the money they obtained from his relations.

Ojo said they took him to Badagry to the house of one of his clients, who bought a brand – new motorcycle from him in January, 2017, and whose rider returned same motorcycle a Month later, due to the warranty of 6 months on it for repair.

According to Ojo, the reason for the visit of the SARS officers became manifest when they began to slap the client and alleged that he had sold off the bike which was used for robbery actions, where two ADCs of a governor were killed.

“They attempted to link me with, of supplying armed robbers Motorcycles which they use to operate and opened their booth and called me supplier to robbery gangs, the man (my client) refuted that and told them that i am instead, a genuine bikes with business branches known to people”.

He said the men later took him to Ikeja where they claimed that they were searching for the guns taken from the said slain ADCs of a governor; pointing that after they collected N200, 000.00,
Thereafter their leader released ordered him to return to the SARS on Friday the 19th May, 2017.

He expressed shock over how the assault, abduction and extortion ended and seeking for justice through a petition to AIG Zone 2, Lagos seeking official intervention.

3 Nigerians Jailed 235 years In America

Three Nigerian scammers who befriended many of their victims on dating sites have been slammed huge prison sentences by a Mississippi court after making tens of millions of dollars from their schemes.

Oladimeji Seun Ayelotan, 30, was sentenced to 95 years in prison; Rasaq Aderoju Raheem, 31, was given 115 years and Femi Alexander Mewase, 45, got 25 years behind bars, according to a report by https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com

A court in the Southern District of Mississippi had in February found them all guilty of crimes including mail fraud, wire fraud, identity theft, credit card fraud and theft of government property. Ayelotan and Raheem were also found guilty of conspiracies to commit bank fraud and money laundering.

Dating back to at least 2001, the scammers were involved in multiple internet fraud schemes, resulting in losses in the tens of millions, according to the Department of Justice.

It claimed that they would befriend women on dating sites, establish a romantic relationship and then either get them to send money or have them participate in fraud schemes, usually without the victim’s knowledge.

The unsuspecting women would sometimes be required to cash counterfeit checks and money orders; use stolen credit card details to purchase goods; and use stolen personal information to take over victims’ bank accounts.

They were also apparently used to launder money via Western Union and MoneyGram, and re-package and re-ship goods obtained fraudulently.

A whopping 21 defendants have already been charged in this ongoing case, 12 of whom have pleaded guilty to charges involving conspiracy and 11 of whom have been sentenced.

The three Nigerians were among the six extradited from South Africa by US Department of Justice in 2015 to face charges of running a series of scams against gullible Americans over the past 16 years.

Fourteen others resident in the US were also arrested to face trial in Gulfport, Mississippi on nine federal charges, including conspiracy to commit identity theft, wire fraud, bank fraud, theft of US government funds, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The indictment states that since 2001 the accused, were part of a string of scams against Americans, facilitated by internet communications. These include the longstanding 419 scheme, whereby a massive windfall is promised once a small number of payments have been provided, but the DoJ claims it went much further than that.

The team was also accused of running romance stings to bilk the lonely of funds, shipping fraud, running fake work-from-home businesses, check fraud, and plain-old hijacking of other people’s bank accounts and credit cards to divert funds.

Global fraud continues to grow thanks to the internet and an increase in the use of both anonymizing technology and bots designed to mimic human behavior.

ThreatMetrix, which analyzes 20 billion annual transactions, blocked 130 million fraud attempts in Q1 alone, a 35% increase on the same time last year.

However, it is Europe that has become a major fraud hotspot. There were 50% more fraud attempts originating from the region than the US in the quarter, the firm claimed.

Man Killed In Abuja For Urinating Near Mosque

By Donald Iorchir
Abuja

Tension is mounting among youths in Jiwa and Gwagwa communities in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) over the killing of a middle-aged man yesterday in Jiwa for urinating near a mosque, located in the community.

According to an eyewitness, the man, whose name was not immediately disclosed to newsmen, was passing through one of the streets in the village, and then decided to urinate in a drainage, close to a mosque.

However, just as he was doing that, a man who was sitting at the front of the mosque and watching him, picked a stone and threw at him.

Blueprint gathered that when the man had finished urinating, he picked the same stone and threw it back at the same man.

This action prompted some youths who were at the mosque to descend on him and gave him the beating of his life.

He was said to have fainted and was rushed to a private hospital in Gwagwa village, where he was pronounced dead by doctors in the hospital.

Our correspondent also gathered that it took the intervention of the divisional police officer (DPO), Gwagwa Police Station, and some other prominent persons in the two communities to stop the youth, who wanted to retaliate.

However, every effort to reach the FCT Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), Anjuguri Manza, for comments on the matter proved abortive.

Pregnant Lagos Beautician Beats Maid To Death

A beautician, identified only as Oby, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly beating her maid, Miracle, to death on Lateef Aregbe Street, Ago Palace Way, Okota, in the Isolo area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the mother of two had descended on the eight-year-old on Saturday and beaten her till she collapsed and gave up the ghost.

She was allegedly plotting with some persons to dispose of the corpse when some neighbours raised the alarm and reported the case to the police.

The suspect was subsequently detained at the Isolo Police Division.

A resident of the area, who did not want to be identified, said the suspect had been beating Miracle for months.

He explained that anytime Oby, who hailed from Anambra State, was confronted by neighbours, she would shun and insult them.

He said, “She is a beautician and has two children and she is heavily pregnant with her third child. Her husband was deported from Libya before he travelled again to Angola, where he is now based.

“She brought the victim and another girl by name Chinacherem, from their village in Anambra State some years ago. They were formerly going to school before she stopped them.

“However, anytime I visit their house, she was always beating this particular girl. Whenever people intervened, she would tell them to go away because she brought the girl from the village and it was none of their business.

“She usually maltreated the two girls and would wake them up as early as 4.30am to start working. She beat them for the least provocation.

“Early Saturday, she descended on Miracle again and beat her till she gave up. She called some people to help her in disposing of her corpse. They were about taking the body out when people challenged them. The people she brought quickly ran away.”

The police from the Isolo division were said to have arrested the suspect.

PUNCH Metro was told that the case was also reported to officials of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender.

An official of the agency, who did not want to be identified, said 12-year-old Chinacherem had been taken away from the community by some family members who didn’t want her to testify against the suspect.

She said, “We gathered that Oby told Chinacherem that when she is queried, she should tell people that she (Chinacherem) and the victim fought and she collapsed and died. After the girl told the crowd that, she quickly added that it was what her madam asked her to say.

“But the woman has confessed to the police that she killed the girl. When we went to the station, we were prevented from talking to her, but they confirmed it was a case of homicide. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.”

The Director of OPD, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, called for an end to child abuse in Lagos State, urging residents to quickly report such cases before it was too late.

She said the agency would follow the case to ensure justice was served.

She said, “The girl’s life could have been saved if people raised the alarm early enough and that is why we always say if you see something, say something. There is no room for child abuse in Lagos State and we will ensure due diligence is done in this matter.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the incident, adding that the victim’s corpse had been deposited in the Isolo General Hospital for autopsy.

He said, “The suspect, Obiageli, beat her housemaid, Miracle Edegwu, to death. She was arrested and transferred to the SCIID. The matter is under investigation.”

UNIMAID Student Caught After She Killed Her New Born Baby And Tried To Force Her Down The Toilet

A sad incident just happened at the University of Maiduguri in Borno State, after a female student who just gave birth to a baby girl, killed the baby and was trying to force the baby through the toilet when she was caught.

The incident happened at Murtala Female Hostel yesterday, May 24th, and was shared by Facebook user, Enyigwe Supreme Peter, who wrote

“Some ladies are heartless..crazy, stupid. In fact I don’t know any word suitable to describe this lady. Sometimes I wonder why some girls don’t have the fear of God in their life..

The picture below is a true life story of what just happened at Murtala female Hostel at the University of Maiduguri today.

As a lady gave birth to a female child..killed the child by herself and was coercing the child into the female hostel toilet..My question is… If this lady was treated in this manner will she be alive today?? Who will marry such a heartless woman as a wife?”.

Nairabet Agent Commits Suicide Over N600,000 Winning

An agent of NairaBet, a sports betting platform, has ended his life over his inability to pay a customer who allegedly won a N600,000 bet.

PUNCH Metro learnt that residents of Obadeyi Ajala woke up on Wednesday to find the deceased dangling from a rope in an uncompleted shop at Ajala bus stop, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The incident was said to have drawn a crowd to the area and a girlfriend of the deceased, who reportedly worked in a filling station in the area, was alerted.

The lady reportedly passed out on sighting the body, but was revived by the sympathisers at the scene.

A resident, Monday Gabriel, told our correspondent on the telephone that the lady gave an account of what could have prompted him to commit suicide.

He said, “I was going to my workplace around 8am when I saw people around three uncompleted shops in Ajala bus stop. On getting there, I saw the corpse of a young man in one of the shops dangling from a rope.

“As we wondered what could have made him to kill himself, a lady, who later identified herself as his girlfriend, arrived at the scene and fainted on sighting the corpse. We poured water on her.

“When she regained consciousness, she told us that the man sent her a text message yesterday (Tuesday), saying he wanted to commit suicide. She said she called his line, but he didn’t pick his calls.

“According to the girlfriend, the late man had a NairaBet shop. One of the customers won N600,000, but he has not paid him.”

Gabriel added that two persons later came and took the lady away from the scene on a motorcycle.

Another eyewitness, Olanrewaju Adebiyi, said policemen from the Ijaiye division came to remove the corpse.

He said, “I learnt he ran a NairaBet shop. If it is true that he was owing a customer N600,000, he must have received the money from the NairaBet management and used it for something else. I also play NairaBet and whenever I win, the agent I patronise pays me the moment the company credits his account.

“The company doesn’t owe the agents, but some of them play smart at times when customers win big money.”

An official of NairaBet Contact Centre, who gave her name only as Chidika, told our correspondent on the telephone that the firm always paid for any won ticket, adding that it was not aware of the incident.

She said, “We always pay for any won ticket. An agent has his own personal business. He/she is just a partner with NairaBet in which we share commission on a monthly or weekly basis. So, it depends on the understanding he had with the customer or the issue on the ground before he committed suicide.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous Cole, confirmed that the case was reported to the police.

He Said If I Didn’t Sleep With Him He Won't Bring Me To Europe; He Raped Me

We were there for months, and that place is so very bad and dangerous. I was begging for them to feed us. All these Arabs, the Libyan men, they come and if they see a boy, they make him work for them. If they see a girl, they rape her."

Mary, 18, from Benin City in Nigeria, cries on a dormitory bed in the safe house where she now lives, on the outskirts of Taormina in Sicily.

The safe house, run by the Penelope Association, provides shelter for women and girls who were trafficked for sexual purposes.

Mary left home at the age of 17 to work in Italy, to escape a life with no prospects but was tricked by traffickers into prostitution.

She was raped by a trafficker during her journey and, on reaching Italy, confessed to the authorities that knew she was going to be used in the sex trade, giving them the opportunity to remove her from the prostitution ring.

“There is no hope in Nigeria,” Mary said, “I suffered a lot there, I don’t have anyone to help me. I couldn’t go to school. My father is dead to me, I have no siblings, so I had to work as a house girl looking after a woman’s babies and cleaning her house. I was so frustrated and didn’t know what to do, and my friend said I should go to Europe. I don’t have anyone to rely on in Nigeria, and I decided to go.

“Though my country is sweet and I love it, I suffered too much. There was no future there for me. A woman said she would help me and send me to Europe and she introduced me to a man, his name is Ben, who she said could help me. Ben said he knew people who had restaurants to put me to work in. For the moment, he said he would pay my expenses.

“The next day, the man called me to his house.” Mary says. “There were lots of boys and girls there. He said to all of us, if we made it to Europe, we all had to each pay €25,000. Some people said no, but I said that was okay.”

“Then he took us to a place they do juju.”

“We had to swear to an old woman –a sorcerer– that we wouldn’t run.” Mary explains.

“So, on March 17, I left for Libya. That place is very, very bad. They treated us so bad –everything Ben –, the man who took us, said – that we would be treated well, and that we would be safe, – it was all wrong. It was a lie.

When we were there, we were trapped first in Gharyan. For three months we were there, and a lot of the girls were raped.” Mary remembers: “That man, Ben, took two of us girls one night. He gave the other girl to an Arab man, and he said to me if I didn’t sleep with him, he would give me to Arab [sic] and not bring me to Europe. He raped me.

“I didn’t have a phone, so I couldn’t reach anyone in Nigeria. There was no way out. One day, Brigette, a woman that was a connection woman that worked with the man, took me to Tripoli for a month. She wouldn’t let me or the other girls out of the house because she said we would run.

“From there we were taken to Sabratha, though everyone calls it ‘Seaside’, because that’s where they push the girls to Italy on the sea.” Mary said: “We were there for months, and that place is so very bad and dangerous. I was begging for them to feed us. All these Arabs, the Libyan men, they come and if they see a boy, they make him work for them. If they see a girl, they rape her. I wanted to get away but I couldn’t – I had no money, no phone. I didn’t even know where I was to escape.”

“I had to stay until they called me to go on the boat. We went to sea and on August 11, 2016, we were rescued by [the] Italian coast guard. I was friends with a girl who had been deported and was making the journey for a second time, and she told me we were going to be used as prostitutes, and that I should not talk to the madams and that I had to stay inside the camp the Italians would put us in.

“I was thinking, ‘I’m not going to work with my body, I don’t want to sell it. Since I was a little girl, I hated prostitution.” Mary said.

“When we arrived at shore [sic], a white woman, Gilda, who was a lawyer, talked to me. I told her I owed a man named Ben money, and I was taken from the camp and put into a safe house.

“Now the people who paid for my trip are saying to my mother it’s time for money,” Mary said softly. “They say I have run away, and that they paid for my trip and I owe them. They say that if I don’t pay, they will put a curse on me to make me be deported.”

“Two weeks ago, they came to my mother’s place and handcuffed her. They took her to a house and threatened her. They said they would do something very bad to her if I don’t send money.” Mary says, her voice breaking.

“So now when she calls me I don’t know what to say, so I have to shut my phone off. I’m so sad, under so much pressure, and I’m so tired. I don’t know what to do.”

“I’m waiting for my documents, and then I can work, and everyone says I have to be patient. And my mother has to be patient, but it’s hard.” she said. “I can’t go stand on the side of the road in the name of money,” she says, her voice rising, “I have a future. Standing there, selling myself would destroy my life. My dignity. Everything. I would prefer to beg than do that.”

“What would I tell my children?” she asks. “How could I look in the eyes of a good man? Who would marry a prostitute?”

“What I’m passing through right now is so big, so serious, I see myself as a grown up,” she continues, “I missed ever being a child.

“I have been inside here for so long,” she says crying. “Always inside. I’m so very lonely. The other girls play with me sometimes, but not with heart. Everyone here has short tempers, they all have their own problems, and fights happen easily. I don’t want to get hurt again, so I stay in my room. I use my phone, I sleep a lot and sometimes I cry in there. I don’t have any friends. I have no one.

“I just want to be happy, I just want to be free.” she continues, struggling to talk while sobbing, “I want it to be over, even just for one day. I need a peaceful place, and to feel the beautiful world. Sometimes I feel like giving up. I feel abandoned, and rejected. I try to be strong, but sometimes I lose that, and I can’t sleep or eat.

“I don’t know when I will go to the [asylum] commission to do my interview, but I don’t know anything. Everyone says wait, wait, wait. I just feel more confused though. I feel like no one is working on my case, it’s like they don’t think I exist. We get food every day, and that’s all. I can only pray that something changes.

“Even in Nigeria, I thought my life would be better, but I’m still in a prison.” Mary says, “I feel like I’m going to be in one place forever. This room. I’ve been abandoned here. I can’t talk to the girls here. I can’t tell them what’s inside of me, and it makes me feel so old. I’m so confused. I can’t focus. I just want to be free.

“I have to believe it’s just a matter of time. One day I will have my documents, I will have an education, I will have work,” she says. “My dream is to become a lawyer, to be able to help people. I want to give justice to the girls that [sic] have to use their bodies for work.”

Girls and young women are trafficked to Italy under the promise of work as cleaners or maids. However, after making the perilous trip, they are forced into prostitution in illegal brothels, or on the side of the road.

Man Attacked By Armed Robbers On His Way To Abuja: "I Cheated Death Yet Again"

A man identified as Okeme Arome Romey has narrated how he escaped death after being confronted by armed robbers on his way to Abuja from Kaduna state. Read what he shared below;

On the seventeenth of May in the year of our Lord two thousand and seventeen, at about 6.20pm, I cheated death...yet again.

I had just spoken with Arc. Felix and hung up with a wry smile that didn't go just too soon. It's being a while I saw the young man. I was headed to Abuja from Kaduna in a public car, there was a gentleman who sat next to my left engrossed in his phone and I peeped and he let me in on what he was watching. I smiled because I had seen the funny video before.

I focused on the journey proper as we drove some 20-30min after taking off, I realized we were at a village called Rijanna and I let my fibers and muscles relax as we had some 1-2hrs more of driving to do. Just as I made to relax, I caught a glimpse of a car parked in the distance by the side of the road with some rough looking men, about 5, wearing military camouflage tops and other trousers wielding guns, I recognized a locally made pistol and some bigger AK47 rifles.

They were obviously the Highwaymen. This mental calculations took only a few seconds to register and I whispered aloud, Robbers! They were robbing the occupants of the vehicle as I saw them all seated on the ground distraught. We had unfortunately ran into them, one of them started beckoning at us to come closer, we were some 50-100meters away, so i asked the driver to reverse the car and try to escape. He obliged.

As the car screeched to retreat, one of the robbers launched after us, he pointed his gun at the vehicle and squeezed the trigger, there were rain of bullets digging their way through the thick body of the car with ease, wheel screen shattered and glasses splintered hither and thither. I was under the illusion that we had escaped when out of the blues three other colleagues of theirs emerged from the bush behind us in a commando style with AK 47s and opened fire on the car, I was sitting just directly where the car was taking fire. The driver opened his door and jumped out, the passenger at the extreme left of me behind the driver opened his door also and we began pouring out.

Once outside, we made for the trough on the side of the road in an attempt to escape to the other carriage of the road leading cars from Abuja to Kaduna. The robbers didn't give up just yet, they ran after us and kept shooting, bullets bounced off the ground close to my feet and flew past my side, I missed a step and fell, picked myself up and commenced running again. It was obvious my mind ran faster than my legs. I kept the motivation going by saying to me, " breathe easy and run for it, you haven't been hit". To the glory of God alone, I made it to the other side of the road and kept running while flagging cars down. I was finally lucky to get one which stopped, whisked me away to some 2-3 km from the site of the action where I met the police preparing to respond. They had obviously heard the shots and noticed the long queue building up on the highway.

As I was running I could see from the corner of my eyes how cars were trying hard to turn around, some left their cars in the middle of the road and jumped out, passengers were pouring out through windows and skedaddling, people were falling off as others took cover in the bushes. It was a chaotic sight.

Herbalist Collected N4m From A Driver For Favour Charm

The police said the victim, Adebayo Omoniyi, had been introduced to the suspect by a friend, who claimed that he (David) had made charms for him which were effective.

David was alleged to have promised to make a charm that would boost Omoniyi’s transport business and make wealthy people in the society to favour him.

However, after paying the money, which was for concoctions and other ingredients, the 38-year-old reportedly did not notice any improvement in his fortune, and when he challenged the suspect for a refund, his request was turned down.

He subsequently reported a case of fraud to the police at the zone 2 command, leading to the arrest of the suspect at his shrine in Atan, Sango, Ogun State, last week Thursday.

A police source said operatives recovered a tortoise and bottled candles from the shrine.

He said, “The herbalist said one Kazeem he worked for introduced Omoniyi to him to also assist him in preparing a charm that will boost his transport business and make him to find favour with wealthy people in the society so that he can get rich.”

However, the suspect claimed he only collected N380,000 from the victim, adding that he was surprised the matter was reported to the police.

He said, “I prepared bars of soap and some other concoctions for him. After a month, he came back and accused me of defrauding him and said what I gave him did not work as expected. That was how I was arrested by the policemen at my shrine in Atan. He was not the first person I would prepare the charm for.

“I learnt the herbalist job from my grandmother, who was an herbalist before she died. Initially, I was a barber before I started the herbalist job. Since I started the work, I have not prepared money ritual for people. What I do is to assist those in need of favour and some other medical-related issues.

“I was surprised when I was told that I collected N4m from the cab driver. The tortoise and the candle in the bottle that were recovered from my shrine are meant for a client. I don’t do money ritual for people.”

The Zonal Police Public Relation Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect was a fraudster who always disguised as an old man to deceive his victims.

She said, “The suspect always put on costumes to deceive people that he is actually an herbalist. He collected N4m from the victim. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, has said that the suspect should be charged to court after completion of investigation.”

Father And Son Take Turns To Rape 12 yr old Daughter

A 56-year-old man, Sunday Adimagwu, and his son, Kenneth, 21, were yesterday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s court and charged with defiling a 12-year-old girl.

The father is being tried for defiling his own daughter, while the son was arraigned for allegedly defiling the same girl— his step-sister.

Both the father, a driver, and the son, a trader, live at Ajangbadi, Okokomaiko, a suburb of Lagos, on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed between September 2016 and April 2017 at the apartment of the accused.

Ogu said the 12-year-old girl had been staying with her father and the step-mother, following a separation between her mother and the father.

According to him, “both have sexually assaulted the girl on different occasions; father and son took turns to defile her.

“When the girl had the opportunity, she ran to her mother’s house and told her what she has been going through— persistent sexual assault.”

Outraged by the former husband’s defilement of the girl she had for him, the woman reported the case at the police station and the man was immediately apprehended, Ogu also told the court.

The offence, he said, contravenes Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 each, with two sureties each, in like sum and adjourned the case until June 19 for mention.

Silence From Buhari’s Aides As President Recuperates In London

President Muhammadu Buhari may have been in and out of hospital since arriving London to see his doctors exactly a fortnight ago, if feelers from Abuja House – the official residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner to the Court of St James’s – where he is staying, is anything to go by.

But this could not be confirmed as The Guardian has met a wall of silence from sources close to Abuja House, with two of them citing fears of losing their jobs, if they dare say anything. One source kept sealed lips and only took occasional glances at this reporter as he approached him yesterday afternoon.

A prominent aide of the president who had in February, walked to this reporter at the entrance of the property and called him “an educated illiterate,” before then saying: “if you want the president dead, you will be disappointed. The president will make a full recovery,” shunned The Guardian when asked for the where about of the president as he was driven out shortly after 1:00pm.

About 10 minutes before then, one other notable aide had arrived and also did not respond to greetings of “afternoon sir, afternoon sir,” before entering the staff quarters. But when he came out later and was going towards the main house, The Guardian repeated same and his only response was “how are you, journalist,” before going in to probably see the president.

Another aide was similarly approached, he only nodded and waved.

All the four sources contacted declined commenting or saying anything about the president’s recovery, however, one regular guest said, “whether he has seen his doctors or not, l don’t know,” when asked about the president’s recuperation. Pressed further, he said, “honestly, l have not seen the President since he came back, “ again on medical vacation.

Two staff members on the payroll of the High Commission told The Guardian the same thing. One said, “

I’m sorry, l cannot say anything to you.” Though the second noted that they have been “busy,” since Buhari arrived, but wouldn’t go further, except to show fear of “losing my job.”

One female staff member when asked yesterday if the president had come back from seeing his doctors, simply said “l don’t know about that.”

As if avoiding The Guardian, the aides and guests no longer use the main entrance to the house, once inside the property. Even on Sunday afternoon, when one arrived at about 3.40pm, the driver packed very close to the side entrance of the house rather than the front door, perhaps to prevent the reporter seeing anyone being driven out.

Even the security didn’t respond to continual pressing of the buzzer-both last week and yesterday.

However, the beautiful flowers used to adorn Abuja house weren’t silent. They did catch the attention of three Italian tourists as one of them took several shots as he walked past.

Passer-by Killed As Three Brothers Battle For Control Of Motor Park

From GEORGE ONYEJIUWA, Owerri

The battle between three siblings over the leadership of Banana Junction motor park at Amaifeke in Orlu Council Area of Imo State turned tragic when a stray bullet allegedly fired by a policeman killed a passerby identified as one Remigius Enwerem.

The police team was allegedly brought by the Ozioma and Ozoemena Agubata group to apparently dislodge the boys of their younger brother Nkeonyere from the park.

Sunday Sun reliably gathered that the battle for control of the park between the three siblings started in February when another innocent passer-by was also hit by a stray bullet when the siblings also clashed. But it was learnt that Nkeonyere Agubata had spent his personal money to treat the gunshot victim to save his life.

It was further learnt that the two elder brothers, who allegedly have the backing of another local strongman (names withheld), were not comfortable with their younger brother’s control of the motor park. With the ardent backing of the local strongman, Ozioma and Ozoemena stormed the park with a horde of thugs and about 40 policemen led by the Area Commander who promptly arrested some of the boys working for Nkeonyere.

Recounting what happened, a source told Sunday Sun: “The battle over the park by the three siblings of the same parents began last Sunday (May 14) when Ozioma and Ozoemena with their boys came with about 40 policemen led by the Area Commander and arrested Chukwuebuka Amadi, Onyemauche Mba, Uchechukwu Okafor, Chinedu Okafor and Abraham who work for Nkeonyere at the park.

After, the police had taken them away Ozioma and Ozoemena then put their boys at the park.

But when the police left, Nkeonyere returned to the park with more of his boys and sacked the boys of his elder brothers from the park and took effective control.”

Similarly, the wife of the embattled chairman of the motor park, Mrs. Chiamaka Nkeonyere Agubata disclosed to Sunday Sun that in the early morning of Friday, the two elder brothers came to their house with armed policemen to arrest her husband.

Her words: “Around 5 am on Friday, Ozioma and Ozoemena came with armed policemen to our house and asked for my husband. I told them that he had travelled but they forcefully entered the house and after searching the entire house they did not show me whatever they took. But before leaving the policemen gave me a written note that my husband should report to the SCID as requested by the state Commissioner of Police, but when my husband returned from his trip he discovered that some money he kept in his room was missing.”

She further revealed that one of their neighours had alerted them last Sunday morning that armed policemen in five Toyota Hilux vans who were accompanied by Ozioma and Ozoemena and their boys had already surrounded their house.

Continuing, she said: “When I received the call from our neighour I told my husband because we had already left for the market at Amaifeke at Banana Junction but as Ozioma sighted him around the market he rushed at him and tried to hold him so that the police would be able to bundle him into their van but as my husband was struggling to free himself from the grip of his brother, the leader of the police team ordered that he be shot and as one of the policemen opened fire, my husband was lucky to slip out of his hands and managed to dodge the bullet which hit Remigius Enwerem, who was just passing.

But instead of the policemen to assist the victim they all fled and abandoned him in his pool of blood. It was later when my husband came back that he tried to rush him to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital but he died on the way and his body was later deposited at the mortuary.”

When he spoke with Sunday Sun, Nkeonyere alleged that his elders brothers were being sponsored by the local strongman, who is being driven by greed. He implored the Inspector General of Police, the Imo State governor and the Commissioner of Police to save him from being killed as his life is under threat.

However, when contacted, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike said he was aware that the National Union of Road Transport Workers had a problem at the park and that the Area commander of Orlu had already made some arrest and that the matter was being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). He affirmed that nobody was killed and that peace had been restored to the motor park.

Soldiers Swoop IPOB Women Abia State

THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, alleged yesterday that soldiers from the military cantonment at Ohafia, Abia State swooped on its women at a meeting at Abiriba to identify with IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful alleged that the Nigeria Police alsojoined the soldiers in the manhandling, humiliation and molestation of the women, whose only crime was to identify with the cause of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

However, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa told Saturday Vanguard that he was not aware of such an incident.

Powerful said in the statement that the soldiers stormed the venue of the meeting with 20 Hilux vans, alleging that without provocation, the soldiers started beating, arresting and tearing the women’s clothes off their bodies.

According to him, some of the women were stripped naked before they were taken to the army barracks at Ohafia.

The statement by Powerful read:

“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leadership worldwide condemn the unprofessional conduct of the Nigerian Army located at Ohafia against the Biafran and IPOB women’s general meeting holding in Abiriba, Abia State. “Food, clothes and accessories belonging to the women were seized by the soldiers and taken to the Ohafia barracks.

“This undemocratic conduct of the Nigerian Army must be condemned by all civilized people and nations. The approach to civil policing adopted by the army makes a mockery of common sense and decency.

“Is it the duty of the army to be going about stripping women naked for no justifiable reason?” We further gathered from an eye witness at the conference venue that some of the women who were arrested by the Nigerian Army were totally stripped naked.

“This is the highest form of criminal brutality against Biafrans by security apparatus and we wonder when this crime against humanity and unprofessional conduct of the Nigerian Army will stop. “We are therefore calling on the women organizations around the globe to condemn and take this abuse of Biafra women by the Nigerian Army to the rest of the world.

“We also call on Queen Elizabeth II of England, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and other notable women, including human rights organizations across the world, to protect the rights of Biafran women from the hands of the Nigerian Army.

Thief Caught On Arik Air Flight From Lagos To Abuja

A suspected thief was caught red handed on Arik Air flight from Lagos to Abuja this morning stealing money from a passenger's bag and transferring to his own.

According to Japheth Omojuwa who shared the story, this has been a common occurrence but when they catch them, the thieves would claim, "sorry, I thought it was my bag..."

"Arik Air actually had someone pose like a regular passenger seated far behind pretending to be asleep. That person saw everything. This time though, the spy let them complete the transfer before making his own move. They were caught literally in the act" Omojuwa tweeted.

The police were alerted as soon as the incident happened on air and the thief was arrested on arrival.

Judas Iscariot!! How Pharmacist allegedly kidnapped his boss for 1million Euros

The story of Pharm. Emeka Egbulugha, the Superintendent Pharmacist, of Maydon Pharmaceuticals aptly played out the famous biblical account of how Judas Iscariot, a disciple of Jesus Christ betrayed his master to the enemies for thirty pieces of silver.

When the news of the kidnap of Mr. Donatus Dunu, managing director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals broke on February 14, 2017, no one initially had clues to his whereabouts, not even his family members, until the abductors contacted them, and demanded a ransom of one million Euro (N500 million) for his release

As the days were turning into weeks and weeks became months with the kidnappers not ready to let go of their victim, the relatives of Dunu, made part payment of the ransom, amounting to about N150 million according to reports, upon which they failed to release him.

Little did anyone know that Egbulugha, a native of Oguta, in Imo State, who was in the employ of Dunu, until his arrest by the police could be allegedly involved in such criminal act, as the victim narrated his ordeal in the hands of the terrible kidnap gang and how he had heard the voice of his employee, at different times discussing with his abductors while in their net.

According to the police source, “the victim said that a few days after he was abducted, he overheard the voice of pharmacist Emeka, who has been under his employ for long, discussing with his abductors in an adjoining room. He said he heard him asking members of the gang keeping watch over him whether they had contacted members of his family”.

“A few days before his escape, the victim said Emeka came and reassured them that he had signed all the documents for the release of goods worth about N7 million from his warehouse and also came the next Thursday to boldly question why they had not killed him as agreed.“He reportedly left after he was assured that they would carry out the killing by the following day, Friday”.  At this stage, the victim said he gave up hope of freedom.

“However, by early hours of Friday, he was able to unchain himself while his captors were deeply asleep with their guns and escaped through the back door, landing at the next compound, where a security guard jumped at him and branded him a thief.  He said that after narrating his story to the guard, he told him to wait but he did not see him again after waiting for a long time.”

Although he almost ran out of luck by falling into the hands of passersby who misconstrued him for a thief, but after some explanations, they assisted him to the Igando police station.

When Pharmanewsonline.com pulled a call through to Mrs Lilian Dunu, the wife of the victim, she acknowledged that Egbulugha had worked for some years with the company, but that he seldom attended the morning prayers made for her husband’s release all through the time he was in kidnappers’ den, as the pharmacist often resume late to work.

Mrs Dunu, who admitted that the family paid a huge ransom to the abductors, said she wasn’t sure of the exact amount paid, but that it was not in naira.

She was however indeed grateful to God for the double blessings she has just experienced- her husband’s miraculous escape and the discharge of her son who had been hospitalised for about a week over an illness.

The visit of Pharmanewsonline.com to the pharmaceutical company at Ilupeju, Surulere, Lagos, yielded further revelations into the story, as some senior colleagues of Egbulugha opened up on how he has been unnecessarily generous to some ladies in the company.

His colleagues who spoke to us in confidence, said they had been doubting his sources of income for a while, as he was fond of doling out money to every Dick, Tom, and Harry, who cares to ask him for lunch, whereas they could not afford such charitable gestures, even with their salaries higher than his.

Since pharmacists are known to be men of honour, it was imperative for us to investigate the authenticity of Emeka’s claim of being a pharmacist. When the Registrar of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) Pharm. Elijah Mohammed was contacted for the verification of Emeka as a pharmacist, his answer was in the affirmative, but was disappointed at his alleged involvement in the present case of his boss.

“It is unfortunate he is allegedly involved in such act, but before now, we have never had any negative report about him”, he remarked

Nigerian Man Arrested In India For Duping Girls

This fact came to the light when cops checked one of the accused man’s bank account and found transaction of more than Rs 10 lakh in this period.

The accused were identified Kenena Solomon 41, a resident of Olowale st victoria island in Nigeria, and Kaushal Prasad Gupta 35. Kaushal belongs to Bihar and was currently living in New Delhi.

A similar gang had been busted by Bikaner police last month. Both the gangs committed frauds with same modus operandi.

The gang members would befriend girls on matrimonial sites, posing as non-resident Indians (NRIs).

“This particular gang was busted when we launched an investigation into an FIR lodged on May 3 by a Adarsh Nagar-based girl in Jaipur,” said commissioner of police Sanjay Agarwal.

The officer said that she had been contacted by one Kelvin who claimed he worked with a company in London as an advisor. He promised to marry the girl and said that he would settle in India after the wedding. Kelvin told the girl he needed to transfer some money and other valuables to India before moving.

On May 2, the girl received a call from a woman, identifying herself as Simran. She said she was a customs officer in Delhi.

“The girl said that the customs department had seized gold biscuits, electronic items and 75,000 British pounds. The girl was asked to pay the customs department Rs 40,000 as taxes to take possession of the confiscated items in installments, the girl paid a total of Rs 1.35 lakh in name of various clearances,” said DCP, west Kunwar Rasthradeep.

The accused Nigerian national had come to India on a tourist visa. He didn’t leave the country even after his visa expired. He had been living in India illegally for the past eight months.

The police have found some banks accounts belonging to the gang members. They were opened on the basis of forged documents.

Nigerian Drug Dealing Brothers Who Flaunted Flashy Things Are Facing Jail

A gang of six large-scale drug dealers who posed with huge amounts of cash, flash watches and cars are facing jail after police saw the pictures. Two brothers, Kenechi and Oluchi Ochereobia, ran a network of drugs couriers from their bases in Hackney and Cardiff.

During their investigation, officers found several pictures of Kenechi posing with thousands of pounds worth of cash – proceeds of his drug dealing. When questioned Kenechi, of Foster Drive, Cardiff, tried to make out he was running a legitimate clothes distribution business.

But police said he was unable to provide any evidence to show the business would account for the amount of cash he was seen to be posed with. Kenechi controlled the operation through a mobile phone, which he and his brother used to contact hundreds of people when they had supplies.

From this, the pair of thugs would receive orders, and then they would send younger gang members to supply drug users in Norwich. Kenechi hired cars and travelled between the three locations to oversee the large-scale operation.

He and his brother, of Mandeville Street, Hackney, were arrested after police found about £23,000 hidden in his Cardiff home. Four other men were also arrested. They are: Elliot Murawski, Frankie Dos Santos, Calvyn Green and Jaivon Prince.

A Hairdresser Commits Suicide By Drinking Insecticide "Sniper" Over Debt Of N150,000

A Stylist in the Somolu, Lagos State, identified as Yetunde Oladipupo, also known as Iyabo, has committed suicide. Oladipupo died when she took an insecticide called sniper shortly after seeing off some friends who had visited her.

Although the cause of her friend’s visit could not be ascertained, it was gathered that the mother of four went to a shop afterwards and bought the insecticide. She was alleged to have taken it and was later rushed to the General Hospital, Gbagada, where she was confirmed dead by doctors. It was gathered that she had taken a loan of about N150,000 from a microfinance bank and the creditor had been pestering her to pay.

A resident, who pleaded anonymity said:

The victim was always depressed because she had no means of repaying the debt. He said, “Iyabo has four children and her husband is based in Abuja. He comes home once in a while. She was a hairdresser and had a small shop where she sold some things.

“She borrowed N150,000 from a microfinance bank. When the pressure became too much for her and she could not pay, she became desperate, drank the insecticide and died.”

Also another resident said two friends had visited her a few minutes before the incident, adding that it was after the visit that she decided to take her life. She said:

“Around 7pm, two friends visited her and she saw them off. As she was returning, she went to a shop opposite her house where they sell provisions. “After picking the insecticide, she asked the shopkeeper for a nylon wrapper, but the shopkeeper declined her request and said she should return the insecticide. She kept it somewhere around her dress and left.

“As she was ascending the stairs to the first floor where she lived, she drank the insecticide. Within seconds, she started feeling uncomfortable and called her five-year-old child to go and get help. She was rolling on the floor and groaning with pain.

“Everybody was alarmed upon seeing the empty container of the insecticide. She was taken to a private hospital on the street, but she was rejected. She was then rushed to the General Hospital, Gbagada, where about five doctors struggled to save her life. She, however, died.”

According to Today.ng, a doctor at the General Hospital confirmed that Iyabo was brought to the hospital around 7pm, adding that she died in the early hours of Saturday.

He said, “The woman was brought to the hospital around 7pm on Friday and her people said she collected a loan which she could not repay. We don’t know the details. Doctors tried to save her life, but she could not make it.”
