NEWS: FOR RIDICULING SARAKI, MELAYE, SENATE SLAMS 6-MONTH SUSPENSION ON NDUME

The Senate yesterday slammed a six-month suspension on former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, over what it described as his penchant for bringing the Red Chamber as an institution and his colleagues to unbearable disrepute.

For the second time, the hammer of the upper chamber fell on the lawmaker from Borno south for insisting that allegations of degree certificate forgery against Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi west) and importing of a bullet proof range rover jeep with fake documents involving Senate President Bukola Saraki should be investigated.

The first time was when he was removed as Senate Leader by the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the Red Chamber, a development he claimed was as a result of his insistence that the Senate did not follow the proper procedure before rejecting the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ndume had told State House correspondents that going by Senate standard procedures and practice, Magu had not been rejected because there was no confirmation hearing for the nominee to defend claims made against him.

The Senate said yesterday’s suspension of Ndume will serve as deterrence to those who are fond of raising allegations without due diligence, caution and patriotic zeal thereby bringing lawmakers and the Senate as an institution to disrepute.

He was suspended for six months with effect from yesterday till September 28, instead of one year originally recommended by the committee, which is contrary to Senate Rules that prescribe 14 legislative days of suspension for a senator with serious offence.

Rule 67(4) states that “when a senator is named by the President of the senate, if the offence is a minor one, the President of the Senate may order the Senator to withdraw for the rest of the Legislative Day, but if the matter appears to the President of the senate to be of a more serious nature, the President of the senate shall put the question on motion being made, no amendment, adjournment or debate being allowed, that such suspension being for any time stated in the motion not exceeding 14 legislative days”.

But Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf (Taraba south) reminded the senate that the suspension of Ndume will run contrary to wishes and aspirations of the people of Borno south senatorial district who elected him.

“Whether he is of good or bad behaviour has nothing to do with his representation of his people in the Senate. Borno south people will not forgive the Senate if it goes ahead to suspend their only representative in the Senate. Moreover, he is a first offender, as he has not been found wanting in this chamber in the past”.

Yusuf who acknowledged, however, that Ndume had done “a wrong” to Messrs. Melaye and Saraki suggested that the former Senate Leader be suspended from committee activities, not plenaries, and that he should be asked to apologise to the duo who were his allies in the struggle to win the Senate leadership at the expense of Senator Ahmed Lawan who was backed by the All Progressives Congress.

Not satisfied with Yusuf’s explanation, the upper chamber insisted that Ndume failed to conduct due diligence by bringing the matter to the floor of the senate, adding that as a former Senate Leader and a ranking Senator, he was expected to have weighed the consequences of the allegation and carefully investigate it before presenting it.

Chairman of the ethics and privileges committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, while reading the recommendations of his committee before the plenary said, “That having failed to cross-check facts before presentation at plenary, he could not be said to be a patriotic representative of the senate, and should be penalized to serve as deterrent to others”.

‘’That the Senate do suspend Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume for bringing Senator Dino Melaye, his colleague, and the institution of the Senate to unbearable disrepute at this time of our National life when caution, patriotism, careful consideration and due diligence should be our watchwords”.
Anyanwu whose committee convened investigative hearing on the matter on Monday cleared Melaye of any breach, saying Melaye obtained a first degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

“That the name of the Senate President, Senator Dr. Bukola Saraki was not mentioned anywhere in the Bill of lading or any document whatsoever connected with the importation or purchase of the SUV Range Rover vehicle”, he submitted.
During the investigative hearing, Ndume had informed the committee that he did not make allegations or raise a petition against the duo of Melaye and Saraki but only raised the issues, having read them in the newspaper.

He said the matters had made the Senate subject of public ridicule, thereby calling for probe.
Clearing Saraki and Melaye of any wrongdoing in the matters, Anyanwu said the car importer and dealer confirmed that Saraki or the Senate was not involved in the importation of the vehicle in 2015 and that the allegation against the senate president was made up.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi justified Ndume’s suspension on the floor of the senate on the ground that the former senate leader was not a first offender.

He said, “Mr President, I am supporting this but I want to give reasons. I want to make this point that Senator Ndume is not just a first offender. We took a decision on the secretary to the federal government, he went outside and maligned the senate.

“We took the first decision when we came here in our executive session and I want the records to be put. When the report of the DSS was read, he rose here and started begging all of us that please we should send Magu back to the president for president to take a decision on him.

“He was begging everybody here and out of respect for him as Leader at that time, this senate obliged him. After that, he went out to malign the senate but he did not tell the public that he was the person who begged us, and he even went further and said we should invite him and tell him why we cannot. He is moving as a saint”.

Against the recommendation of the committee that Ndume should go on one year suspension, Senator Matthew Urhoghide moved for six-month suspension, which eventually became the resolution of the Senate.

Saraki who presided over Wednesday’s plenary yielded the seat to Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, when the proceedings progressed to the consideration of the probe committee’s report.

NEWS- President Buhari Appoints Two Ministerial Nominees... Both From The North

Acccording to nan.ng, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent names of two new ministerial nominees both from to the Senate for confirmation. Both are from Kogi and Gombe state.

A source close to the Senate told our correspondent that the letter arrived the Senate late Tuesday.

Our correspondent gathered that the Kogi nominee will be replacing the late Minister of State for Labour, Barr. James Ocholi while the nominee from Gombe would be replacing former Minister for Environment Ms Amina Mohammed who had gone to serve in the United Nations as a deputy Secretary General.

The list of ministerial nominees is coming at a time when the Senate stood down for two weeks consideration of the request of President Buhari for the appointment of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

The Senate based its decision on what it termed disregard for its proceedings.

The upper legislative chamber specifically berated the President for appearing to be doing nothing about the rejection of Ibrahim Magu a the Chairman of the EFCC but allowing him to function in acting capacity.

The senate stressed that it was wrong to leave any appointee in acting capacity even after he had been rejected twice buy the senate especially wen the President or his Vice is in office.

Doctors Butchered My Wife To Death In Lagos- Portuguese Hubby Cries Out - Family.

Medical errors in hospitals kill more Nigerians every year than AIDS, malaria, breast cancer and auto accidents combined.

But Arlindo Defreitas, a Portuguese national living in Lagos, never thought his wife would be one of those statistics. After all, he attended almost 5 years of medical school back in Portugal.

But when his wife took a turn for the worse during a cesarean section at the Medical Art Center (MART) in Lagos, he went from being confident to helpless and lost husband, afraid of questioning the care she was getting, for fear it would become worse.

Arlindo, who now has to care for his son alone after his wife died following the cesarean section, says his wife was killed by doctors at the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Onigbongbo, Lagos, based hospital.

"When I entered the theater all her organs was scattered around, I couldn't look , it was like the work of a butcher." I told the doctor my wife is not a cow, he said. Arlindo said his wife, Amaka, 24, showed no signs of distress in the weeks following up to the c-section.

According to him, after 4 years trying to conceive, his wife finally got pregnant and was a pre-natal care patient at the MART Hospital. " Last week Friday at 41 weeks of pregnancy, doctors at the hospital told us that no baby water was seen and as a result a cesarean section operation must be done as soon as possible."

The procedure was done and the baby was delivered by 8.30 am on Saturday, and we were very happy- for a short time, he said. "I was very happy even though the baby almost died as I was told by the doctors that the baby was almost 'strangled' by the umbilical cord, the head was red and one arm was white, the skin was very wrinkled."

"My wife was moved out of the theater and transferred to a private room to recuperate"' At some point she was in excruciating pain, and the doctors kept giving her doses upon doses of pain killers". "I was uncomfortable and I told them that from my experience as a medical student years ago I think my wife hemorrhaged.

At that point Arlindo watched as her condition steadily worsened, until doctors asked him to leave the room. He claimed that after his persistence the doctors ran a test and said that his wife lost a lot of blood during the cesarean section. "I was asked to leave and wait for a call before coming back, so I went home".

In the words of Michael Klimek, a friend of Arlindo and a fellow European from Germany, " after she delivered the baby, the doctor told her that she have to drink 5 bottles of water ." I was shocked, everybody knows how dangerous it is for a woman that just underwent C- Section to drink water".

" After drinking the water, the bleeding started and it won´t stop. They gave her 2 bags of blood-transfusion, but it was not helpful." "Hours later the doctors said they have to cut her open again to find out what was going on with her, Klimek said in shock.

At that point the husband said he was told that she has low blood a 12.7% packed cell volume (PCV)". " I said why can't you use ultrasonic Tools and scans to see what’s going on, instead of cutting her open again and allowing her lose more blood which is already a problem". "By the time I got to the hospital, they already cut her open for the second surgery, they opened her thorax from under the breast down – and finally, they found nothing after 4 hours of operation."

"I was an emotional wreck by this point." I never gave consent for the second surgery, nobody in my wife's family did, Arlindo told Per Second News . "Until this moment cause of death is still unknown". "I don´t understand this doctors and hospitals.

This “Photoshop certificate Doctor” killed our best friend and for this he must be imprisoned for life and the MART Hospital shut down for ever. And none of this doctor or nurses must practice in this profession again, said an angry Klimek, friend of the husband. " I am from Germany and when this things happen in Germany or Europe, the government conduct an investigation, I hope, this will be the same here, he asked.

"Now I can understand, why your president went to medical check up outside of Nigeria, he concluded. The husband of the deceased claim that one Dr Moses butchered his wife to death, "yes Moses killed my wife".

" After they noticed their mistake they refuse to tell me details, I called them continuously and they won't pick my phone". Per Second News reached out to the hospital and the chief medical director, Prof Oladapo Ashiru, said the Mart medicare gave the deceased high quality care with experienced professionals.

" The lady Amaka, was young, she said she was 24 but she looked 21". " He said all those that attended to her from the Obstetrician to the Anesthesiologist and Nurses are well experienced professionals.

Ashiru said he has well over 40 years experience. He revealed that he was not part of the team that worked on Amaka and directed us to the consultant who spoke to Per Second News about what transpired. MART MEDICARE According to Dr Makewu of the MART hospital, "w ith the help of fertility doctors from the MART Center, Amaka Defeitas, conceived using IVF, after which we had a meeting with the couple detailing a 13 week management plan that includes C-section at birth.

"Mr Defreitas rejected the C-section saying he wanted his wife to have it the natural way, despite several medical advice from us". "At 37 weeks there was no sign of labor and they were still insisting on natural means". I didn't see them or hear from them again until I called them at 39 weeks and she said she travelled and was not around". "They finally came when the pregnancy was a 41 weeks. "

After a scan no baby water was seen at that point I told them categorically that a C-Section must be done immediately." "We did the procedure and the baby arrived Saturday morning, except for the umbilical cord that was around the baby's neck, everything was fine, both mother and baby were fine and we even moved her out of the theater to the normal room for her to recuperate."

" Hours after the first surgery she started complaining of tummy ache and severe pain, despite the pain killers being administered on her, she also complained of abdominal pain. "She was pale and we ran a test and found out that her blood level was 12.7 percent low, at that point we did the second surgery to find out what was the cause of pain".

Dr Makewu put the blame at the doorsteps of the Defreitas, saying the operation should have been done weeks before the 41 week period.

Asked about cause of death, he said autopsy is currently being carried out. But Mr Defreitas insists that it was an error on the part of the doctors to cut his wife open for the second time within a 24 hour period.

Justifying his claim, Defreitas, said he did not give his consent for the second surgery because he expected the hospital to do a comprehensive CT-Scan of the Pelvic & Abdomen to get the right diagnosis, rather the doctors did a normal blood test which will never tell you if a patient has a blood clot or something more fatal. " I insisted in scan but before I arrived at the hospital they already cut her open and allowing her to lose more blood leading to her death".

A doctor close to the family said " Possibly she bled a lot at first surgery, maybe the womb did not contract well also". " She could also have had a DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation) an acquired bleeding disorder from too much blood loss, which makes it impossible for the body to stop further blood loss".

Defreitas, a retired professional with Lufthansa, German airline opened up in a lengthy discussion with Per Second News about living with the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Amaka, an Imo state indigene. The family are still in shock and traumatised over the mysterious death of Amaka Defreitas, with the husband demanding that an independent postmortem be done on the remains of his wife. " We travelled all over the world together and looking forward to spending our lives in Nigeria, its so sad, I don't know what to do next".

Speaking with Per Second News Dr Tiffany Jones, a US based obstetrician, said the case of the late Amaka Defreitas, is both pathetic and curious, wondering the rationale for making her go under the knife within 24 hours after the C-Section. She said the most common reason women die during C-sections is bleeding. Bleeding can be fast and severe and by the time any medical protocol can be instituted, sometimes it’s just too late. " That is why I believe the second surgery was not necessary". "Other C-section complications include bladder injury, infection, bowel injuries and blood clots, which can sometimes result in pulmonary embolisms. A pulmonary embolism is a potentially fatal blockage of the main artery of the lung by a substance that has traveled from somewhere else in the body."

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Amaka’s husband, family and son during this difficult time.

BBNaija: Nominations For Possible Eviction This Sunday

BBNaija: Bally, Tboss, Marvis & Debbie Rise are the housemates up for possible Eviction.

The live nomination show just ended, Bally, Tboss, Marvis and Debbie Rise have been put up for possible eviction.

During the nominations, housemates were called into the Diary room to nominated one of their housemates for possible eviction.. and those with the highest nomination votes were: Efe, TBoss, Debbie-Rise and Marvis.

Below is how they got nominated:

First up was Marvis..and She chooses Debbie-Rise and TBoss.

Bally was next, and he chose Debbie-Rise and TBoss.

Debbie-Rise was next.. and she chose Efe and Marvis.

Efe was next, and he chose Debbie-Rise and TBoss

TBoss was next and she chose Efe and Marvis

Head of House, Bisola was next and she chose Debbie-Rise and TBoss.

Contrary to Ebuka’s announcement yesterday that there would be no save and replace, Biggie upturned it and allowed Bisola to save and replace using her power as head of house…

Biggie then tasked the Head of House, Bisola to save and replace one of the nominated housemate for Bally.. and she saved Efe.

This of course shows that Bisola and Efe will be in the Finals and we all know they’ve got the highest number of fans in Nigeria..

Earlier, before tonight’s Live Nomination Show and there was an unsettling mood in the House.

The Housemates sat in two camps in the late afternoon, with Debie-Rise and TBoss in the lounge and Bally, Bisola, Efe and Marvis outside and each camp talked about the other.

Debie-Rise and TBoss talked discussed who they felt was the strongest competitors in the House, as well as predicted who would Nominate who tonight. Nothing strange there, as Biggie introduced a game changer last night, telling them they could save one the Nominated Housemate, as well as discuss Nominations.

The two agreed that the other camp would definitely Nominate both of them tonight. “I think Bally will pick me and Efe. Marvis will pick me and you. Efee will pick me and you or you and Bally. Bisola will pick me and you. Correct me if I’m wrong. I know Bisola will pick us. What are the chances that Bisola will pick Efe?” she wondered.

TBoss and Debie-Rise have been discussing how there’s a “clique” in the House for a while now, that of Bisola, Marvis, Efe and most recently, Bally and it came as no surprise that they sat and discussed these particular Housemates this afternoon.

TBoss also went on to predict how they would both Nominate. “You will pick Efe and Marvis and I will pick Efe and Marvis,” she said. Debie-Rise agreed, adding that she hoped they would hold hands during the finals.

The conversation quickly moved to a slight hint of depression, as TBoss told Debie-Rise how she was disappointed in herself lately.

“I feel I have disappointed a lot of people. I’m angry,” she said, before bursting into tears.

Debie-Rise tried her best to comfort her. Meanwhile, in the other camp, Bally, Bisola, Efe and Marvis sat outside discussing the fact that TBoss was crying.

Such conversations were not the first today, as Bally, Bisola, Efe and Marvis got together this morning and started discussing openly, which one of them they felt should take the fall tonight.

Biggie’s twist seems to have certainly shaken things up and with Bisola winning Head of House this afternoon, one wonders how things will play out during the Nominations.
